Historic Milestone: PM Modi Hoists Saffron Flag on Ram Mandir After Construction Completion
Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the ceremonial hoisting of the saffron "Dharma Dhwaj" atop the 161-foot spire of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, thus declaring the long-awaited temple construction formally complete.
The flag, triangular and saffron-coloured, bears sacred symbols: a radiant Sun, the sacred "Om," and the image of the Kovidara tree, representing valour, faith and cultural continuity.
The hoisting was done during the auspicious "Abhijit Muhurat" around 12 noon in tandem with the holy day of Vivah Panchami, which is the divine wedding anniversary of Lord Ram and Sita, giving deep spiritual weight to the ceremony.
PM Modi's Speech: A Call to Resolve & Unity
In his address after the hoisting, PM Modi termed the moment the fulfilment of a centuries-long aspiration. He said the flag is not just a piece of cloth but a symbol of "truth and dharma" and urged the nation to honour its promises, even if fulfilling them costs "one's life."
He spoke of emotional closure, saying the "wounds and pains of centuries" were being healed that day. For many devotees, the ceremony wasn't about bricks and mortar; it was about identity, faith, and a sense of collective belonging.
Why This Moment Matters
This flag hoisting, termed "Dhwajarohan," is more than just the last nail in the construction; it seals the architectural and spiritual completion of the temple complex. While the temple was inaugurated this January 2024 with the consecration of the idol, today's flag hoisting cements the entire sacred structure's sanctity and readiness.
The saffron flag, raised on a 42-foot mast atop the main spire, is designed to withstand strong winds-a testament to the enduring legacy of the temple.
Other dignitaries like the RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat; the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; and trustees of the temple also accompanied PM Modi, underscoring how important the event is for both devotees and the nation.
Looking Ahead
With the temple now structurally complete and spiritually consecrated, the event sets the stage for a new chapter: one where the temple stands not only for a place of worship but also as a symbol of unity, cultural pride, and national heritage. The saffron flag flying high over the Ram Janmabhoomi temple marks that beginning.
