Paris Olympics 2024: 'Leaf Over Beef', Special Vegetarian Diet And Menu Designed For Indian Athletes
Indian athletes have long struggled with limited vegetarian options while competing abroad. However, the Paris Olympics 2024 promises a refreshing change. The event, starting on July 26th, will feature a diverse menu at the Games Village, catering to various dietary preferences.
The dining experience for athletes is set to be enhanced significantly. Sodexo Live!, the catering authority for the Paris Olympics 2024, has revealed an extensive menu. The canteen, opening on July 12th with a seating capacity of 3,500, will offer a fusion of French, Asian, African-Caribbean, and World cuisine.

'Leaf Over Beef': Promoting Vegetarian Options
Interestingly, despite France's reputation for meat-centric dishes like Foie Gras and Steak Tartare, the Paris Olympics 2024 will feature numerous vegetarian alternatives. Reports from Express UK indicate that 60 percent of the food served will be plant-based. This includes meat-free hot dogs and plant-based tuna.
Philipp Wurz, responsible for food and beverages at the Paris Olympics 2024, stated: "We are convinced that with these Games we have a unique opportunity to do things differently and show that another model is possible. It is with immense pride that we can announce that all the food options at La Concorde will be 100 per cent vegetarian. We wanted to focus on the vegetarian options. It is a first in the history of the
Games and the result of four years of work."
This shift towards vegetarianism aligns with efforts to reduce meat consumption in France. The organisers advocate for 'leaf over beef', aiming to promote sustainable eating habits. This decision could greatly benefit Indian athletes who follow a vegetarian diet.
Many Indian wrestlers rely on dairy products and supplements for their nutritional needs. With an abundance of vegetarian options available at the Paris Olympics 2024, these athletes can enjoy a hassle-free dining experience. This ensures that their dietary preferences won't hinder their performance.
Indian Dishes That Will Be On Menu
The menu will include familiar Indian dishes such as Steamed Basmati Rice, Dal, Roti, Aloo Gobhi, and Indian-style Chicken Curry (with minimal spices). Additionally, some South Asian broths will be available.
The introduction of these vegetarian choices marks a significant departure from traditional Olympic menus. It reflects a growing awareness of diverse dietary needs among athletes worldwide.
As the countdown to 26 July continues, this innovative approach to athlete nutrition highlights the organisers' commitment to inclusivity and sustainability. Indian athletes can now look forward to enjoying meals that cater to their dietary requirements without compromising on taste or nutrition.
