Diwali: A Sweet And Sour Family Reunion
Check out what Ayesha has on her mind for making this Diwali really special for her parents!
These days, most of the millennials like to live independently and don't mind relocating to wherever their career takes them to. Perhaps, it also brings a sense of alienation for parents who feel left out of the daily lives of their children.
Despite the distance, technology helps bridging the gap among you and your loved ones; those Skype calls and random selfie exchanges make everyone feel closer to each other. So, does the holiday season!
Diwali is that time of the year when everyone gears up for a gala family time. While the festival is marked with lights, crackers, delicacies, ethnic clothes and celebration, it also brings happy reunions for families that are separated by distances.
Most of the students and working professional get to visit their homes, and even the young married couples with sons and daughters like to visit their grandparents to make their Diwali party bigger and merrier.
From spring cleaning to house painting, preparing lip-smacking sweets and delicacies, making the rangolis and enjoying the tea time together make a home feel like a festive wonderland.
Most importantly, it takes you back to the good olden days spent at home with parents and the cheerful vibe that will stay on with you till your next trip back home.
Likewise, Ayesha is a young working girl who wants to prove her ability to take care of herself and is used to staying alone after studying abroad. She is constantly seeking her parent's approval and wants to show them she is a responsible adult.
Moreover, constant arguments over deadlines, her dressing sense and never-ending loop of explanations were beginning to strain her relationship with her parents. And hence, these were reasons good enough on why she decided to take up a job in a different city to carve out her own space.
But her parents were not at all amused with the idea; however, they still supported her decision of moving into a new city and starting a life on her own terms. She is in fact constantly reaching out to them via video calls, and frantic speed dials to make up for the moments she is missing out on, since she is far away from them.
Recently, an unexpected encounter with her neighbours suddenly brought back the Diwali nostalgia for her. Thus, she decided to surprise her parents with a rather unusual twist.
