Koffee With Karan 9: Salman Khan Opens Up About Fatherhood In Season Premiere
Karan Johar's question was a gentle one, put to a man who has spent decades deflecting personal ones. Does Salman Khan miss having children of his own? This time, the actor reportedly did not deflect. He said yes.
In the premiere of Koffee With Karan 9, Salman Khan wants children someday, and acknowledged that fatherhood is something he would like to experience at some point in his life. At 60, he remains one of Bollywood's most talked-about bachelors. The Sikandar actor did not stop at admitting it, though.
A Question Rooted In Family
Johar reportedly framed the question around Salman's closeness to his nieces and nephews, the children who have long been a visible part of his life. The conversation then moved beyond romance. It turned to what family offers: emotional support, companionship, and a sense of being held up by people who are always there.
A Wish He Has Voiced Before
This is not the first time he has spoken about becoming a parent. During his 2023 appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Salman revealed that he had considered having a child but run into legal restrictions. He added that he might explore the option if the rules changed.
He said then that his plan had been about a child, not a wife, and pointed to Karan Johar and Tusshar Kapoor, both single fathers, as examples. In the same conversation, he spoke about his affection for children and the practical realities of raising them, including the time he would want to give them as they grew up.
Fatherhood, in other words, has been something he has thought through rather than waved away.
Nine Seasons, One Couch
The setting gives the admission added weight. Koffee With Karan first aired on 20 November 2004, opening with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Salman made his debut in the Season 4 premiere in December 2013 alongside his father, Salim Khan, and returned for the 100th episode in Season 5 with his brothers Arbaaz and Sohail. This is his first solo appearance, and in the promo he joked about a show called Every Koffee With Salman.
It is also the end of an era. Johar confirmed in an emotional video in late September that this would be the show's last season. In the promo, he tells Salman, "This is the finale season, so this can go anywhere."
The premiere streams on JioHotstar on 14 October at 7 pm IST, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday.
What We Know
Salman Khan has not announced any immediate plans to become a father. What the Koffee couch offered was smaller, and more human: a glimpse of a wish he has carried for years. For an actor whose private life draws as much attention as his films, Salman Khan wants children someday is a short sentence with a long history behind it.
