2024 Instagram Trend Talk: Indian Gen Z Are More Career Oriented, Get Excited By Diverse Food
As per the 2024 Instagram Trend Talk by Meta, Indian Gen Z are leading the trend game and have ranked exploring career paths, staying healthy, travelling, checking out variety of food flavours as their top priorities.
The conclusion was drawn after a quantitative survey of 5,000 Gen Z respondents across India, Brazil, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

For those who are unaware, Generation Z or Gen Z comprises people born between 1996 and 2010. So, let us know how Gen Z will shake things up and influence culture in the new year 2024.
1. Indian Gen Z Is A Trend-Setter
Be it food, beauty, and fashion trends, Indian Gen Z has a heightened inclination to embrace and explore emerging trends, said Meta in a blog. Also, they are most excited to try diverse food and ingredients, be it ayurvedic ingredients, vegan products, plant-based meats, or adaptogens. Indian Gen Z has also shifted gears in numerous areas such as prioritizing careers in life, having meme preferences, and exploring a variety of food flavors. As per the report, they're leading the trend game.
2. Gen Z Wants To Work On Self-Improvement
Meta mentioned in a blog that 43% of Indians hoped that 2024 would be their self-improvement era! They want to invest their time in personal growth and development. In 2024, Gen Z in India has ranked staying healthy, exploring career paths, and traveling as their top priorities. Also, Gen Z India exhibits a stronger focus on their career pursuits, it added. Also, they believe that starting their own business is the best way to achieve wealth.
3. Quality Of Meme Matters
Social media is one of the most preferred ways to connect with someone and memes are simply like icing on the cake. From liking their feed posts, and interacting with Stories, Gen Z finds it appealing while connecting with someone, mentioned Meta in its research. 'Actually, your meme preferences hold more weight than you realize. Nearly a third of Gen Z respondents in India picked 'bad taste in memes' as their top turn-off!' it said.
4. Relatable content
No matter the genre of the content, what Gen Z wants most is relatability. This holds true not only globally, but also in India. 'Specifically for Indian Gen Z, in 2024 they look forward to more content with - life advice, more everyday 'day-in-the-life-of' content, and content about their professions!'
5. DIY Approach To Fashion
'44% of Gen Z in India are interested in DIY (do-it-yourself) and wearing clothes in unexpected ways. A fourth of GenZ said their favorite beauty trend is getting a new hairstyle,' mentions the blog. Indian Gen Z demonstrates a greater enthusiasm for creatively showcasing fashion trends. Trends like GRWM (Get Ready With Me) and thrifting are getting huge attention and DIY approaches featuring 'sarees' and 'jhumkas' are becoming popular.
6. Being Part Of Fandom
Meta's survey mentioned that 'India has the highest percentage of sports superfans, as compared to Gen Z from other countries.' Also, the same report said, '9 out of 10 GenZ in India consider themselves part of a fandom.' Be music aficionados like the BTS army, Swifties, AR Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal, and Anirudh; gaming enthusiasts invested in Minecraft, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Roblox; or sports affiliations such as Indian Cricket Team, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings; Indian Gen Z like to be a part of fandom in numerous areas.
