Katy Perry Takes Russell Brand's Surname

Katy Perry wants to have a "brand" new name. The newly-married pop star has revealed she plans to take husband Russell Brand's last name as her own and become Mrs. Katy Brand. American singer Katy Perry married the British actor in a posh ceremony in India on October 23 but did not follow traditional western wedding culture by changing her surname to his.

But, now, Katy, whose real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson confessed she is considering the move after photographers keep calling her by Russell's name to get her attention at red carpet events. The Firework singer chatted to Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show about how she has already begun the process to legally take her husband Russell Brand"s name.

"If I'm at an event or something like that," she explained, "and [people] want special attention, they go, "Mrs. Brand!" and I'm like (turns head quickly)." Katy Perry was quoted in a statement.

When asked if she already gets called Mrs Brand she admitted: “I do actually!"

The secret came out after Ellen DeGeneres posed the question on Wednesday's episode of her eponymous talk show.

"Now are you thinking about changing you name?" DeGeneres asked.

"Yes, I am, actually," Perry confirmed. "I'm in the process and already getting some practice".

DeGeneres acknowledged Brand as "fantastic" Brand and "very calm" and when asked Katy Perry about what she feels about Russell Brand and her new life she said.

"Yes, he is a smorgasbord of things. Sense of humor is very important in our household," Perry replied. "I think that's how we de-stress. We like to have a laugh. We're just really good friends," she added.

"And we have three cats at home, which is really fun. I think our favorite time is just being at home with our cats and having fun."

When asked about the cats' names. Katy Perry replied

Kitty Purry, Morrissey (after Brand's favorite musician) and Krusty, a combination of Katy and Rusty, Brand's nickname.
