BAFTA Honour For Terry Gilliam

By Staff

Terry Gilliam
The comedian-turned-director-writer, Terry Gilliam will be honoured with the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards) fellowship award. The Brit writer will fall in the same league as Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg with the award.

However the announcement has shocked Gilliam, as he believes he was more well remember as an actor in the comedy TV Monty Python's Flying Circus rather than his directing skills. "Awards and honours I've kind of shied away from, but this one I'm happy to take. I keep asking myself, why me? It was quite a surprise when they said we'll give you the Fellowship, as I don't expect these kinds of things," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

"I'm recognised more as a Python than I am a filmmaker I suppose. And it'll probably be the thing that goes on the gravestone," he added. The award ceremony is set to take place at the at London's Royal Opera House on February 8. AGENCIES
