A Record That You Can't Break

It's a story about a man – perhaps, the only living soul at this point in time who must have got a record in everything you can think of, everything he must have touched by his naked hands And mind you, by records here, I mean to say 'The Guinness Book of World Records'. No kidding. Meet Ashrita Furman (I know, the name must be familiar), who has set about 230 official Guinness records since 1979.

The man has set records in all the seven continents and in more than 30 different countries, and not surprisingly, he is also the official record holder for 'The most current Guinness World Records held at the same time by an individual'.

Now, there has been an addition of a new feather to the cap. Ashrita Furman has become the first person to hold 100 Guinness Book of World Records simultaneously, after he recited and translated a poem into 111 languages. The resident from Jamaica, Queens, assembled a group on Tuesday that recited late Indian spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy's poem 'Precious' in 111 languages at City Hall Park.

The resident from Jamaica, Queens, assembled a group on Tuesday that recited late Indian spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy's poem 'Precious' in 111 languages at City Hall Park.

While over 100 participants followers of Chinmoy from around the globe recited the eight-line poem in languages ranging from Dzongkha to Picard, Furman recited it in Zulu. "It was fun learning about many of these languages quite a few I never even heard of," the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.

The feat broke the previous record, in which 'Values on Community Harmony' was read in 79 languages.

Earlier this year, he broke the record for eating the most M&Ms with chopsticks in a minute after he ate 38.
