Relish The World's Biggest Jalebi

After registering its name in the Guinness World Records for holding the largest drums and guitar ensemble, Meghalaya is now gearing up to fry the world's biggest jalebi.

The world record attempt of frying a jalebi 75 inches in diameter would be made during the Autumn Festival, starting on November 1 at the Polo Ground.

'The 75-inch size jalebi would be fried by local confectioner Delhi Mistan Bhandar which is celebrating its platinum jubilee this year,' chairman of Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) Robert G Lyngdoh said.

Delhi Mistan Bhandar is one of the oldest shops in Police Bazar, located at downtown cosmopolitan Shillong.

'I am confident that Delhi Mistan Bhandar will set a record of the world's biggest jalebi,' Kailash Varma, the proud owner of Mistan Bhandar, said.

The world record attempt is part of the annual nine-day autumn festival of the MTDF, which starts with the Shillong Carnival consisting of a float parade depicting the theme 'Environment and Culture for Tourism' and Shillong's cleanest locality competition in collaboration with the Department of Urban Affairs.

The float parade would be a competition amongst the localities of Greater Shillong, as well as schools and colleges of Shillong to create awareness among its citizens on the importance of environmental conservation.

The best three floats would get prize money of Rs 70,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. There would be 10 consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each.

An Open Archery competition in collaboration with Apphira Archery Committee with participants from all over Khasi and Jaintia Hills districts of the state would also be held.
