Overseas bands to enthrall Itanagarians

{image- www.boldsky.com}Itanagar : It is a dream come true for music-lovers of Itanagar as the sixth edition of the annual Roots Festival Tour 2008, which began at Imphal on May 3, is all set to enthrall the audiences here tomorrow evening.

The mega musical event, to be held at Indira Gandhi Park here, is part of a tour by the Roots Musical Entourage covering the entire Northeast region.

Foreign bands participating in the event include Dub Lfo, a five-member band hailing from Tel Aviv (Israel), who would perform rock, dancehall, hip-hop, dub and Reggae. Meanwhile, English band Too Late Lucy will play punk Rock and Ska, driven by a brass section of trumpet and trombone.

Apart from these foreign bands, a few Indian groups include Raghu Sixit Project from Cochin, who would perform folk-rock music.

Rewben Mashangva from Ukhrul district of Manipur, Warklung from Diphu in Assam"s Karbi Anglong district and Omak Komut Collective and Down Under, both from Itanagar.

Addressing a press conference here this evening, the producer of the event informed that the festival was aimed to inspire young people from the region for folk music and connect history and roots of contemporary music.

''Music could re-unite the people of Northeast and pave way for establishing peace,'' commented Ben Champniss of Too Late Lucy.

''Indian music is rich for its melody,'' said Adi Ben Sur of Dub Lfo.

The producer also disclosed that efforts were being made to promote at least ten bands from the region and record albums.

Meanwhile, a delayed report stated that three members of the musical entourage, including a woman sustained injuries when their vehicle skidded off the road near Ghahi Gaon in Gohpur area in Assam"s Sonitpur district this morning.

The injured included Kiet Wallang, manging director of Springboard Surprises and his associate Anu, besides Raghu Dixit from Cochin. All the three were admitted to R K Mission Hospital here.

The organizers of the event informed that two of them were immediately released after preliminary treatment, while the woman was kept in the hospital under observance.
