Outer Space 'Smells Like Fried Steak'

By Staff

Outer space
Outer space smells of fried steak, it also smells like a hot metal, and the welding of a motorbike, according to NASA experts.

The bizarre smells were reported after astronauts returned from space walk

Steven Pearce of British fragrance firm Omega Ingredients, commissioned by NASA is to recreate the smells in a laboratory in a bid to help astronauts prepare for their missions.

Pearce told pupils at Moorside High School, Manchester, he hoped the smells would be ready this year

"When astronauts were de-suiting and taking off helmets, they all reported quite particular odours," the Sun quoted him, as saying.

"We have already produced the smell of fried steak, but hot metal is more difficult.

"We think it's a high energy vibration in the molecule and that's what we're trying to add to it now," he added.
