Laying the foundation stone for broad gauge conversion of two narrow gauge lines at the Samni village near Bharuch, the Minister said the land near railway track will be put to some use.
According to the Western Railways (WR) officials, the cost of the gauge conversion is estimated at around Rs 400.25 crore. The narrow gauge from Bharuch to Dahej industrial town is a 62 km long track, while Ankleshwar-Rajpipla has a 63 km long track. Both will be converted to a broad gauge. Bharuch-Dahej stretch will have three stations and the railways will spend around Rs 200.25 crore on conversion. The Ankleshwar-Rajpipla track will have 12 stations and will come up at cost of Rs 200 crore.
