Woman troubled by immigration officials
Chennai, Jan 8 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Anna International Airport here last night after a group of air passengers agitated against the alleged abuse of a Dubai-bound woman passenger by immigration officials.
Official sources said the woman C Betal (32) and her daughter Kelly (9) came to board the Chennai-Dubai Indian flight, scheduled to leave at 2000 hours. It was alleged when she produced her travel documents before the immigration authorities the officials abused her.
The woman, working as Manager in a Dubai-based oil company, complained to her brother-in-law Saravanan, who had come to see her off.
The immigration authorities attempted to prevent her from travelling by raising doubts over her travel documents. But airport and Indian officials came to her rescue and she boarded the flight at about 2245 hrs.
The immigration authorities, with the help of CRPF personnel, followed her into the aircraft and attempted to offload the woman passenger. However co-passengers, the pilot and other crew members protested and they disembarked, leaving her to carry on with her journey.
The flight took off at about 2355 hrs, delayed for about four hours.
