soft drinks
Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, May 13 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) today expressed fear over soft drinks, made by multinational companies (MNCs), causing liver disorders as they were ''acidic'' in nature.
Addressing a press conference here, JVV State Treasurer Jampa Krishna Kishore and Publicity Secretary T V Rao claimed soft drinks contained acids besides pesticide particles.
The JVV has been campaigning against soft drinks that were damaging the health of Indians. They alleged the drinks had traces of sulphuric acid which was used to clean toilets.
They had even pursuaded Telugu Actor Chiranjeevi not to feature in a soft drink commercial, and is campaigning to create awareness on the benefits of consuming coconut water and fruit juices which were healthy.
The JVV also alleged the MNC cigarette companies with an ''evil thought of capturing the Indian market'' have exerted pressure on the Centre to issue orders for printing 'skull and bone' symbol on beedi packets.
They said the JVV would campaign against this 'indiscriminate' attitude of the Centre towards the beedi workers.
