Paul Newman Quits Hollywood
Paul Newman has announced he is quitting Hollywood aged 82. The 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' star plans to run an organic restaurant near his Westport home in Connecticut.
He told US TV show 'Good Morning America': "I've been doing it for 50 years. That's enough. I'm not able to act any more at the level I would want to."
Newman won an Oscar in 1986 for 'The Color of Money', for his portrayal of Fast Eddie Felson - a former pool star who teaches a promising player, played by Tom Cruise, how to hustle. Newman was last seen on screen in 2002, starring alongside Tom Hanks and Jude Law in 'Road to Perdition', which was directed by Sam Mendes.
His final role saw him voice the character of Doc Hudson in last year's hit animated movie 'Cars'.
It was believed Newman would be reunited with Robert Redford - his 'Butch Cassidy' and 'The Sting' co-star - but his retirement plans have dashed the hopes of fans.
