Campaign to create awareness on 'Suvarna Karnataka'
Byndoor, Karnataka, Oct 5 (UNI) 'The Suvarna Karnataka Samskrithi Jatha', simultaneously starting from eight points in the State one month prior to the year-long 'Suvarna Karnataka' celebrations from November 1, commenced on a grand note from the northern border of Udupi district here today.
The jatha, inaugurated by Medical Education and district incharge Minister Dr V S Acharya, included several tableaux depicting the folklore, culture and tradition of coastal Karnataka. Large number of school and college students participated in the two-hour-long procession on NH-47 passing through Byndoor town. A mobile exhibition, displaying the photographs of all Chief Ministers of the State and Jnana Peeta awardees, added colour to the procession.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Acharya said the jatha was being held to create an awareness among the people in general and the youth in particular about the cultural heritage and development of the State during the last 50 years, besides the current situation.
He said the State, which had attained top position in the world in IT, should also assume the numero uno position in all other areas, for which an united effort by the people was needed.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) former President Harikrishna Punaroor, KSP Udupi district unit President Chandrashekar Holla and Udupi Deputy Commissioner participated in the jatha. Later, literary and cultural programmes were organised.
