Seminar on "Safe motherhood" organised
A seminar was held here on ''Safe Motherhood'', organised by Sanjivani, a non governmental organisation, to create awarness among women living in the slum areas.
Speaking on the occasion,the doctors from Tata Steel's Community Development and Social Welfare (CD and SW) stressed the need for educating the women about the basics of health care.
Dr Manju Dubey said anaemia was found as the serious threat among the young women, residing in the slums.
She observed that majority of the teen-aged girls between 12 to 18 years suffered from anaemia due to iron deficiency and lack of nutritious food in their diet.
She advised to consult the nearby health centres of Tata Steel and the government.The anaemic patients should take adequate iron tablets to cope with the desease,Dr Dubey suggested.
Dr K K Sharran lamented despite the talk of women empowerment,the condition of the women,particularly in the lower income group was yet to change and said that prpoer education to the women could improve the situation.''The women themselve should take initiative to improve their deplorable conditions'',he said.
About the child mortality rate,Dr Sharan said despite intiatives taken by the various government and non-government organisation and even the World Health Organisation (WHO),''in every three minutes two death takes place''.
Secretary of the organisation Manju Roy said they had undertaken various programme to educate the women and the young girls about safe motherhood and other health-related problems.
