Former Director of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Programme, Dr Kota Harinarayan today called for establishing an effective linkage system between Industry, Academia and Laboratories for the optimal use of the achievements made in the field of Aviation sector in the country.
Delivering a special address at the Project Management Practitioners Conference-2006, organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Industries and Commerce (BCIC) here, he has said India had achieved tremendous success in the field of Aviation and Communications mainly due to astute research and development made by such laboratories.
He said the country could derive the spin-off benefit of the LCA programme in other fields such as Automobile, Bio-technology and Health sector.
Dr Harinarayan said India should pursue innovative technologies to sustain the technological advancement it had achieved. Such efforts had helped United States remain 10 years ahead of other countries in the world. ''The strength of the US is that it quickly implements the innovative and advance technology in the field of science and commerce,'' he said.
Strongly favouring more investment in defence sector, Mr Harinarayan said, ''If you make good investment in defence it will percolate into commercial and general purposes and to do that we also need to build a strong organisational structure.'' Expressing satisfaction on the increasing investment being made in the field of Aviation by the private sector, he felt that in the next 5 to 10 years India would become a major manufacturer of both commercial and defence aircraft.
