heritage in Rajasthan
Jaipur, Dec 5(UNI) Rajasthan is taking the lead in the preservation of heritage and culture with the development of 'heritage' in the state.
Addressing a press conference here today chairman of the newly constituted Heritage Protection and Promotion Authority of Rajasthan Onkar Singh Lakhawat said Rajasthan has a very old and rich culture and heritage. He said the government plans to develop some of the villages associated with historic places and religious significance as 'heritage' for the promotion of tourism in the state.
He said according to a recent survey the state has identified about 7000 heritage properties with some of them offering immense opportunites for developing as pilgrim centres or tourist destinations. But he said one of the the major hurdles in the way of the these properties is lack or absence of accessibility. He said these include forts, Babaris, caves, temples etc. The Heritage protection and promotion authority not only endeavours for the conservation of these heritage sites but also to develop these as important tourist and pilgrim centres.
Mr Lakhawat said ''the conservation efforts will be carried out with the cooperation and patronage of the local people as such ventures may not yield any worthwhile result without making it part of the social life of the local community''.
