Esha: Only Harley
By: Upala KBR, Mid-Day
Esha Deol believes in pampering herself, and those around her - family, friends and her pets. During the Rockstar show recently, her anxieties were centered around her pet pooch, one-year-old Shih Tzu, Piccolla, who was left behind at home.
So when she went shopping, she bought designer accessories for her pet. Read on for a tete-a-tete with the actress.
So you went shopping?
I went with one suitcase and came back with six (laughs) but that's very little compared to the shopping that everyone else did. I have a few favourite stores in USA, like G Star and River Island and I bought some evening gowns, sporty clothes from Bebe's, shoes, Victoria's Secrets lingerie, lots of DVDs, a big speaker (I-Pod Hi-Fi) and bought Harley Davidson leash with matching strap collar for Piccolla, my puppy.
All through the shows I had one worry on my mind - Piccolla would run away. I had nightmares about that. I missed my dogs at home.
It was your first international world tour?
It was a good learning experience. It was my first world tour and it will always remain in my memories. I had a very good response especially from the teenage crowd and I was flooded with cards showering me with love. I loved that! My favourite shows were at Dallas, Washington, San Francisco and Boston.
Before every performance of mine I did a classical dance - a prayer and namaste as the opening act after which I did my numbers from Dhoom, Kaal etc. I would end with a kick-jump.
The audiences loved that. I have decided to go on more world tours as now I have learnt a lot and how to handle things.
You met up with Kareena Kapoor again.
Yes and we bonded very well again. She's a very sweet girl, very much in love with Shahid and in her own world. Both of us are well-brought up girls and we kept in touch so we shared a great bond on the tour.
Were you insecure about Salman promoting Mallika Sherawat?
Salman gave me no reason to feel insecure at all and took care of all of us beautifully. He is a great human being. I was not insecure about Salman promoting Mallika.
Maybe Mallika felt the need to be promoted. I had no hang-ups or any problems. I'm a very confident dancer. And when I am on stage, I forget everything else. Mallika belongs to a completely different bracket from mine. She did her own thing and I did mine.
What was the reaction to Ankahee?
The film might have got mixed reviews, but I got a lot of calls saying I'd done a good job. For me that was enough. It was a lengthy, meaty role, something which Hindi film heroines don't have, I got to experiment a lot and with Ankahee today, I know I can act.
