Although frogs may look nasty and creepy which, may make some people to hop for a furlong at the sight there are many who would love to have it as their pet. Their popping eyes, silky smooth body and a large mouth have attracted children a lot.

I remember my 3 year old neighbor hoping behind a frog to kiss it for once after hearing the fairy tale, 'The Frog Prince' . The pop song, 'Crazy Frog' had made the whole world go crazy for its outstanding music and its shaky moves with the rhythm. If you are one of the frog lovers and would like to have frogs as pet in your aquarium for the first time, here is a perfect guideline for you. Read how to prepare yourself to welcome your pet frog.

Before you get a pet frog:
Before getting a frog from a pet store it is necessary to do a lot of research prior to deciding on the type of frog that best suits your needs and your house environment. Make sure, to follow all these tip s before its arrival,

Set up a tank with everything needed according to its habitat. For instance, aquatic, terrestrial, arboreal, or semi-aquatic or half land and half water, which is probably the trickiest to set up

and one of the most common types of tank needed for frogs. It is generally recommended that you obtain an aquarium from your pet store rather than go through the trouble of building one yourself

If you would like to have small frogs as your pets ask the shopkeeper to get a specie that doesn't grow big. Don't go with its name, for example, "pixie" frogs, which sound like they should be small, are actually African bullfrogs which grow to be 8-9 inches long and very fat.

Water should be provided in a shallow non-metal bowl on the bottom of the terrarium. Water in this bowl should be changed often. The frog is very sensitive.

Introduce live plants in their terrarium, for example Pothos.

Do not allow the terrarium to get too hot. The perfect temperature for them is 68-75°F. Use a thermometer to measure the temperature inside the terrarium.

The type of food required. Many frogs need a variety of insects, and the larger types can even eat a mice

If you are buying a frog for the first time, then go for African Dwarf Frog. These are small, active, cute, and about as difficult to maintain as a tank of goldfish. You also don't have to deal with live bugs and they can be kept in the same conditions as goldfish for extended periods of time. For a good beginner terrestrial frog experience, buy Oriental Firebellied Toads and a better tree frog for beginners would be,' White's tree frog".

One of the behavioral rule that should be kept in mind are, do not keep more than one species in a terrarium. Preferably all animals should be roughly the same size.

Things to remember

When keeping green tree frogs, it is important to remember that the frogs need a roomy, clean terrarium with high humidity.

Captive frogs should not be handled very delicately. Regular handling is stressful and unhealthy for amphibians, as the chemicals in human skin can be detrimental to them.

Remember, a lot of frogs don't really do much, and they aren't exactly something you can snuggle up with either, so if you are person who expects it to be active and move along your commands then drop the idea.
