Cleaning these stuff that support the growth of fungi should first be eradicated and thrown away. Prefer washable carpets, foot rugs and mats, choose laminated wall hangings and chuck the old newspapers. Dusting walls and cleaning ceiling every fortnight, keeping the windows open for air circulation and sun light will maintain the walls for a long time.
