How To Maintain Your jewellery
Your passion for jewellery is portrayed in not only acquiring the best and beautiful ones but also in taking care of them. Maintaining your jewellery will help in retaining the beauty and quality of them for ages. Here are a few tips to maintain your jewellery.
Choose a spacious container or a jewel case that has a lot of compartments to store your jewellery than storing them all together to avoid scratches.
The jewel case should preferably have its compartments made in a soft fabric like velvet, satin or silk to retain the novel look of the jewellery as wells as to avoid scratches.
See to it that you fasten the clasps and hooks of the necklaces and chains so that they do not get entangled.
For storing pearls, use velvet or a cotton cloth and avoid plastic or other material lest they will dry them out.
Never use a tissue to store your jewellery as you may mistake it for trash.
Avoid storing jewellery in a freezer as gemstones can get discoloured.
Store gemstones and pearls separately from other gold, silver or platinum jewellery.
Store gems of different materials in different containers.
Do not pull at gemstones and pearls while removing as they are prone to loosen with time and may fall off
Change the thread of your pearl necklace or string with a jeweler once in a few years
Avoid wearing jewellery while engaging in house work, sports or gardening as jewellery are sensitive to chemicals and objects that they come into contact
Clean your jewellery periodically and do not allow dirt to get accumulated.
Special jewel baths may not be good for cleaning gems like porous gems (pearls, turquoise, opal, lapis etc) as they may ruin them
Always adhere to a mild soap in lukewarm water to clean your jewellery.
Last but not the least when you get dressed for an occasion resort to wearing your jewellery at the end of your make up as jewellery are sensitive to the chemicals in sprays, perfumes, creams etc.
