How To Create A Luxurious Guest Room, 10 Expert Decor Tips!
Whether you have guests staying frequently or unexpectedly at your home, it is crucial that you create a memorable experience for them. A guest room as the name suggests is a dedicated space for the guests where they can relax, sleep, and feel welcome in your home.
As a homeowner and host, you can add a luxurious touch to the guest room which in turn will earn you some brownie points for the hospitality and impressive personal aesthetics!

Here are some expert tips to decorate a plush-looking guest room:
1. Keep the Supplies Handy
First and foremost, ensure to make your guests feel comfortable. Prepare an essential supply kit that includes water bottles or a tumbler, a few eatables like munchies or assorted chocolates, sanitiser, and tissues. Arrange the same in an attractive decor tray and place it on a side table or coffee table. Accentuate this handy arrangement by placing a pleasant flower arrangement in a decorative vase!
2. Follow a Theme
It is always a better idea to design your home (including the guest room) with a specific design theme. Based on your liking and preferences, your space can flaunt a vibe that is labelled with popular design styles like modern, contemporary, classic, eclectic, and more. Or you can design the guest room in a different design style which sets it apart from the rest of the home interiors, for that needed change and excitement!
Once you have selected the design theme for the guest room, it gets easier to decorate the space with the right furniture, furnishings, and accents matching the theme!
3. Have a Proper Sleeping Arrangement
Guests will only feel welcome and at home if the guest room is well-equipped with proper sleeping arrangements. You can include essential furniture pieces like a bed, Murphy bed, sofa cum bed, futon couch, etc that fit perfectly in the available space.
4. Include a storage space
Include a wardrobe, cupboards or cabinets where guests can store their belongings. You can keep extra bed sheets, comforters, blankets, pillows, etc inside the cupboards for easy reach and provide for the same whenever anyone needs the same. Your occasional seasonal things can also be stored in the guest room wardrobe, preferably on the upper shelves or units.
5. Impress with Accent Furniture
Apart from the bed and wardrobe, you can add a few more accent furniture pieces in the guest room. For example, bedside or end tables are ideal to keep books, reading glasses, a water jug, medicines, and more. An accent chair in the corner will allow guests to read, relax or watch TV in the room. A study or work desk is a great choice for anyone to work in solace.
6. Create a Focal Point
When we enter any room, the first thing we notice is the walls. Impress your guests with your impressive decor skills by creating a focal point in the guest room. Elevate the wall (preferably behind the bed) with accent wall paint, wallpaper, or mural. Match the colour of the same with the chosen colour palette of the room. For an accent wall, you can select a slightly darker hue or busy design for that eye-catchy appeal.
7. Feature Layered Lights
Just like a living room, dining room, or bedroom, a guest room should also be designed with layered lighting design. Add essential ambient lights (with downlights, recessed lights), task lights (with a table lamp or floor lamp) and accent lights (pedants, chandelier, or sconces). Keep the style of the lighting fixtures in sync with the chosen interior style. With such effective lighting solutions, your guests will be able to use lights as per their needs and requirement.
8. Add Comforting Soft Furnishings
It is the soft furnishings that help add a sense of warmth and comfort to your home. Elevate the bed or chosen sleeping arrangement in the guest bedroom with quality bedding like a fitted sheet, bed sheet, comforter, blanket, and pillows. Include layered curtains (a set of light-filtering and blackout curtains) for brightness and privacy purposes. Add accent cushions in attractive colours, shapes, and patterns to contribute to the decor. And finally, place a beautiful rug or runner to define and elevate the guest room!
9. Decorate with Art and Accents
Your guest room decor will be incomplete without a fair share of decor accents. Add a lovely artwork (go for one large piece or select a set of 2 or 4 framed wall art) on the wall. Elevate the surfaces of the TV unit, wall shelves, side tables, and coffee tables with attractive showpieces or sculptures. Add a hint of nature with mini plants or succulents. You can also include a set of books that serve as decor pieces too!
10. Prepare the Guest Bathroom
Decant the small portion of your regular toiletries like body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, dental floss, etc into small, travel-sized containers or get mini toiletries to prepare the guest bathroom. Keep an extra set of bath towels and face towels stacked up on the bathroom rack or cabinets.
