Winter Garden Flowers For Your Space With Nature

Gardens is the most important and beautiful area of your house. It the place where you enjoy your own personal space with nature and it's great to see trees, plants and flowers reacting in their own soundless way to your unconditional nurturing. Trees like eucalyptus tree, mango tree etc, survive all season but flower plants are seasonal. They live only till the time they can match up to the season.

As winters approach and the wind gets more cold and sun shines less bright, it's time to choose flowers for our winter garden. It is generally believed that less flowers survive winter than in summers. Here are few flowers for winter garden -

1.Hamamelis (Witch Hazel) – This plant looks beautiful with it's rich yellow-gold flowers which dazzle under the soft winter Sun. This is a native of United States and Southern Canada. They usually grow as a shrub but at the same time can also be planted as a single stem tree. The season for Witch Hazel starts from Mid-October and stretches till December. It grows to a height of 30 feet and spreads up to 25 feet. The flower grows best in the open.

2.Camellias – Camellias is one of the best flower plant for winter gardens. This plant can produce flowers of different colours like pink, red and white. They can dress your garden from spring till winter. The Camellia plant can live up till the end of winter but demands good drainage.

3.Snowdrops – Snowdrops are bulbous perennials, which usually blossom in during late winters. True to their name they are white in colour and look like melted snow sticking to the green stalk. They have strap like leaves, which grow from each bulb. From each bulb grows a plant and from their hangs four white petals with green edges. They grow best in Humus soil and need to be away from the direct light of the Sun. They grow like grass across the lawn and each plant grows 5-8 cms apart.

4.Sweet Alyssum – The permanent member of the winter garden flower family, Sweet Alussum, is a native of Europe. They can grow in any soil and needs area shaded away from Sun. The Sweet Alyssum, grows to 8-12 inches high and has a sweet aroma when they are in full bloom. They best season for Sweet Alyssum is from October to January.

5.Pansies – Pansies come in variety of colours. Traditional colours are white, purple and blue. They are also available in peach, pink, lavender and orange. They grow best in organically rich soil, well drained and open to sun. The height of Panies is 6 to 8 inches.
