World Sight Day: Tips To Safeguard Your Eyes At Work
World Sight Day, a global event observed annually on the second Thursday of October, has a significant impact on addressing blindness and vision impairment. World Sight Day 2023 will be observed on October 12, 2023.
The theme for World Sight Day 2023, "Love your eyes at work," resonates with the importance of maintaining good vision in the workplace, where we spend a significant part of our lives.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide suffer from vision impairment or blindness. Shockingly, 1 billion of these cases could have been prevented or are yet to be addressed.
Your workplace plays a substantial role in this scenario!
Tips To Safeguard Your Eyes At Work
We live in a world where screens have become almost universal, resulting in eye strain and digital eye fatigue. Long periods of staring at computer screens or mobile devices can cause serious eye problems in the future.

1. Follow the 20-20-20 rule
Studies show that extended screen time can lead to digital eye strain. To combat this, follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away. This simple habit can significantly reduce eye strain.
2. Have proper lighting
Inadequate lighting can force your eyes to work harder. Ensure your workspace is well-lit with adjustable lighting options, and avoid glare from windows or overhead lights.

3. Ergonomic workspace setup
Your computer monitor should be at eye level and about 20 inches away from your face. Adjust your chair, keyboard, and mouse to promote good posture, reducing the risk of eye and neck strain.
4. Blink frequently
Blinking keeps your eyes moist and reduces dryness, a common problem during long hours of screen use. Make a conscious effort to blink more often, or consider using artificial tears.

On A Final Note...
On World Sight Day 2023, take a moment to prioritise your eye health, especially at work.
