All You Need To Know About The Link Between Type 2 Diabetes & Hearing Loss
Can diabetes lead to hearing loss? Read this article to know more on this and also about the signs of hearing loss.
You might already know that heart disease, nerve damage or vision problems are complications of diabetes. But did you know that even hearing loss could be caused by diabetes?
People with type 2 diabetes have two times the risk of suffering from hearing loss complications when compared with those without the condition.
The link between hearing loss and diabetes has been established in several research studies.
High blood sugar can actually cause damage to the small blood vessels in your inner ear. This is similar to the way how it damages the blood vessels in your heart, kidney and nerves.
Sometimes, researchers also find it difficult to find the possible correlation between diabetes and hearing loss. One reason is that people with type 2 diabetes tend to be older, which makes it difficult to know that hearing loss is directly related to diabetes or an age-related condition.
Several other studies have stated that people with diabetes have more hearing loss than people who do not.
