How To Prevent Vegetables From Spoiling In Summer?
Summertime heat is not bad just for us, but also for the veggies in your kitchen. High temperatures can speed up the ripening process of fruits and vegetables, which can cause them to spoil faster. What's more, the summer heat can also reduce the nutrient content in fruits and vegetables, making them less nutritious.

The key is to keep vegetables cool and store them properly. Additionally, buy locally-grown produce to ensure that it is fresh, and buy only what can be consumed within a few days. Let's check out the different ways how to prevent vegetables from spoiling in summer.
How To Prevent Vegetables From Spoiling In Summer
Here are some tips that can help prevent vegetables from spoiling in summer:
Tip 1: It is recommended that you do not refrigerate vegetables such as onions, potatoes, garlic, and tomatoes. They should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Tip 2: When mangoes, bananas, avocados, kiwis, pears, plums, and tomatoes ripen, ethylene gas is released. Ethylene is capable of prematurely maturing food items such as apples, broccoli, carrots, watermelon, and leafy greens. Never store these together as it will accelerate the ripening process.

Tip 3: Fruits such as berries and grapes should not be washed until just before eating. Wetness encourages mould growth.
Tip 4: In the case of roots and tubers, remove any leafy green tops and refrigerate them in a plastic bag for the longest life, or store them loosely in a drawer for a shorter period of time (up to 2 weeks).
Tip 5: Don't refrigerate onions and garlic. Store in a cool, dark place with low humidity. Allow some air circulation and keep away from potatoes and sweet potatoes.
Tip 6: It is recommended that cabbage and similar cruciferous veggies should be refrigerated in sealed containers, uncut heads should be refrigerated without a bag, and once cut, the heads should be sealed in an airtight container.

On A Final Note...
Avoid buying vegetables in large quantities in summer, try to shop every weekend, or only when your existing stock is about to get over.
