PM Modi Enjoys Masala Tea In Monsoon: 5 Surprising Benefits Of Drinking This Spiced Brew
With a clever quip and a steaming cup of spiced chai, UK-based Indian tea vendor Akhil Patel brewed more than just tea, he stirred up a viral moment.
As he served masala chai to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK PM Keir Starmer, Patel proudly introduced his brand, Amala Chai, saying, "Sourced from India, brewed in London."

When PM Starmer asked what he had to offer, Patel didn't hold back his pride: "Masala chai. Tea from Assam, spices from Kerala. Nutmeg, cinnamon... all the good stuff." Also, while serving the brew, he looked at PM Modi and said with a smile: "From one chaiwala to another."
The moment PM Modi received his cup, he smiled and declared: "Chai Pe Charcha!" - turning an ordinary tea break into a symbol of cultural connection, entrepreneurship, and desi flavour diplomacy.
In that single line, a world of history, aspiration, and humility was captured. From selling tea on railway platforms in Gujarat to leading 1.4 billion people, PM Modi's journey has always been laced with strong determination-and a stronger cup of chai.
Now, in the middle of India's rainy season, the image of PM Modi sipping masala tea during monsoon feels deeply relatable. But beyond nostalgia and symbolism, there's another reason this beverage is trending: it's actually very good for you. Here's why this age-old spiced brew is the perfect health elixir for monsoon.
1. Masala Tea Boosts Immunity Naturally During Monsoon
Monsoon brings joy-but also viruses, colds, and low immunity. Masala tea, made with spices like clove, ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom, becomes your daily immunity booster.
Ginger fights infections, cinnamon reduces inflammation, and cloves carry antimicrobial properties. This powerful mix helps keep seasonal flu, cough, and cold at bay-especially when your body is vulnerable during weather shifts.
2. This Spiced Brew Improves Digestion After Oily Monsoon Cravings
We've all been there-samosas, pakoras, bhajiyas calling our name as the rain pours down. While tasty, monsoon snacks can slow digestion and cause bloating.
Masala chai's blend of black pepper, ginger, and cardamom stimulates digestive enzymes. It eases bloating, reduces acidity, and helps the stomach process oily food better. A cup after snacks can feel like a digestive reset.
3. Masala Tea Lifts Your Mood On Gloomy Rainy Days
There's a reason we instinctively reach for a hot cup of tea when it rains-it's emotional comfort in liquid form. But there's science too.
Spices like cinnamon and clove trigger the release of serotonin and dopamine, the brain's "happy chemicals." Paired with the warmth of the tea and the sound of falling rain, it becomes a natural, therapeutic mood lifter.
4. It Acts As A Shield Against Common Monsoon Infections
During monsoon, bacteria thrive in stagnant water and humidity. This increases the risk of respiratory issues, stomach infections, and skin allergies.
Masala tea includes black pepper and clove, both known for their antibacterial and antiviral effects. Ginger helps clear congestion and soothe sore throats. Together, these ingredients protect the body from common seasonal illnesses.
5. Supports Heart Health And Regulates Sugar Naturally
Not many know this, but masala tea can also help manage lifestyle issues like high blood pressure and diabetes. Cinnamon, one of its key ingredients, helps regulate blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity. Cardamom and ginger improve circulation and lower cholesterol levels.
For someone like PM Modi, whose daily decisions affect the entire country, maintaining optimal health is vital. A sugar-free cup of masala tea, rich in antioxidants, can be a smart daily ritual.
Masala tea isn't just a beverage. It's warmth. It's resilience. It's care. And it's one of India's finest monsoon rituals that blends health, heritage, and healing in every sip.
So, the next time you're stuck in traffic while it rains or feeling low and chilly indoors, remember what PM Modi showed us: sometimes, all you need is a good cup of masala chai-and the world feels better.
