Maintaining healthy hygiene like washing hands frequently, using eye protective eye gear like a sunglass when you are out, and avoiding touching of eyes frequently with your hands, etc., are a few of the precautionary measures that can be followed to prevent eye infections.

But of all the treatment measures, home remedies are found to be the best. Also, the good thing about home remedies is that these come without any side effects.

One of the effective treatments we can offer in our home to treat our itchy eyes is applying a cold compress. Dip a cotton cloth in ice cold water and apply it around the eyes for a few minutes to get a good relief. Repeat this process several times in a day until you see the change.

Alternatively, you can also try keeping the chamomile tea bags on your eyes to get that soothing effect. Keep two chamomile ice tea bags in the refrigerator for an hour or two, take them out and retain over the eyes for five to ten minutes. Repeat this method for three to four times in a day for faster recovery.

Water and salt combination also helps in treating painful and itchy eyes. You can just rinse your eyes with salt-mixed water, as it reduces irritation and inflammation of the eyes that helps to wash away the debris collected in the eyes. Salt acts as an antibacterial agent and kills bacteria. Make a natural eye wash by mixing a cup of distilled water with one teaspoon of salt. Boil the solution until the salt dissolves completely. Allow the solution to cool down and then flush your eyes. Repeat it 2-3 times a day.

Green tea has anti-inflammatory properties that can benefit to soothe your eyes. Make an eye wash by boiling two green tea bags in a cup of distilled water. Allow them to cool completely and flush the eyes twice a day with the solution until you feel better.

The antifungal and antibacterial properties of aloe vera aid in combating with the infection that is causing the itchiness.

In treating many eye problems such as eye irritation, itchiness, redness, inflammation and puffiness, cucumber helps a lot with its anti-irritation properties. Cut the cucumber into slices and place them on your eyes, leave it for around 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse off your eyes.

Alternatively, you can also try applying the cucumber juice on your eyes to relieve them from itching and pain. Squeeze the cucumber pieces and dip a cotton ball in the juice, hold the cotton ball on the closed eye for a few minutes to get the soothing effect.
