Most people tend to believe that increased physical activity is the only way to deal with obesity; however, obesity can be cured by a proper diet.
This is where Ayurveda becomes effective, as it uses natural herbs, shrubs and kitchen items to increase your metabolism and thus permanently prevents the problem of obesity.

Amla:
Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is a wonder fruit. It has an antioxidant that helps to flush out the toxins from the body. This would in turn enhance your metabolism and would help you to burn more calories. This ensures that the measure on the weighing scale would dip. Moreover, amla has huge reserves of Vitamin C. This vitamin is essential for strengthening the immunity of the body. Amla also has anti-ageing properties due to the presence antioxidants in it. It also is beneficial for the skin and hair. Take 2 teaspoons of Amla with water early in the morning before breakfast.
Triphala:
"Triphala" literally means three fruits. It is a powdered combination of Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula). Proper digestion and elimination of wastes is fundamental to maintaining and lessening the present body weight. This is where Triphala comes in handy, as it helps in proper bowel movements. Moreover, it harmonizes the body function by bolstering the reproductive, cardiovascular and urinary systems of the body. Take 1/2 a teaspoon of Triphala in lukewarm water, stir well and have it when it is still warm. It is best if this powder is taken first thing in the morning.
Turmeric:
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a popular spice and it is readily available in the Indian market. It has various health benefits and may be extremely useful when it comes to the treatment of obesity. It is extremely beneficial for health, as it is a storehouse of volatile oils, Vitamins (B &C), Potassium, Sodium, Iron, Omega-3 fatty acids, a-linolenic acid, proteins, carbohydrate, fibres, etc. Turmeric has great reserves of dietary fibres and these fibres keep you full for longer intervals of time, preventing overeating. It increases the metabolic rate by thermogenic action, which aids in weight loss. One must consume 2-3 teaspoons of turmeric daily. However, one must refrain consuming it on an empty stomach.
Ginger:
Ginger like turmeric has a thermogenic effect, which increases metabolism. An increased metabolism allows you to burn more fat on a daily basis. Moreover, it improves and stimulates digestion, which is important for increased metabolism. Ginger and lemon make a great combination for weight loss. Lemon has huge reserves of antioxidants, which flushes the body of toxins. It also has Vitamin C, which increases the body's immunity to different diseases, allowing you to stay active and thereby indirectly aiding weight loss. Heat a cup of water. Now slice a ginger and put it into the cup of water. Then, add a dash of lemon to it. You may have this several times in a day; however, it is best had during the mornings.
Gotu Kola:
Gotu kola is a herb that is very common in traditional medicinal sciences. In Ayurveda, its use has been recommended as a potent weapon against ailments like urinary tract infection (UTI), shingles, leprosy, cholera, dysentery, syphilis, the common cold, etc. It has anti-inflammatory properties. It is especially effective for the treatment of loose skin post weight loss.
Guggul:
Guggul, also called Commiphora wightii, is a flowering plant which is extremely effective when it comes to losing body fat. However, it is extremely scarce and is an endangered species. Guggul naturally induces the production of two important thyroid hormones namely triiodothyronine or T3 and thyroxine or T4. These hormones have a thermogenic effect and increase the metabolism. Guggul is available in the market in the form of guggulsterone supplements. For weight loss, 30-60 mg of guggulsterone supplements should be taken three times daily.
