Foods You Should Avoid With Hyperthyroidism
Thyroid is an important gland in our body that is responsible for the production of thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for the regulation of the body's metabolic processes.
The thyroid gland uses iodine from the diet to produce the thyroid hormones. Overactivity of the thyroid gland may result in an excessive production of the thyroid hormone.
The causes of hyperthyroidism are graves disease, toxic nodules, excessive intake of iodine and certain medications. If not treated on time, this condition can further lead to a lot of health complications.
The important symptoms of hyperthyroidism include anxiety, tremors, rapid heart beat, sleep difficulties, weight loss, bulging of the eyes and irregular periods.
There are a list of foods that should be avoided by people who are suffering from this condition. These foods may cause further health discomforts for people with hyperthyroidism consuming them. So, it is always better to be aware about these various foods.

Iodine-rich Foods
Iodine increases the activity of the thyroid gland. Therefore, it is essential to avoid foods that are rich in iodine. People with this condition should avoid seaweeds and other seafoods that are rich in iodine. They should also avoid the intake of iodised salt.
Caffeine
Stimulants such as coffee, tea and other caffeinated and stimulating foods intensify the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Replacing caffeinated drinks with healthy juices is the ideal thing to do.
Whole Milk
Milk consumption is not good for hyperthyroidism. Try to avoid whole milk and drink skimmed milk that is healthy and easy to digest.
Enriched Flour
Enriched flour contains fewer nutrients and has a high glycaemic index that may disrupt the sugar and hormonal level in the body including the thyroid hormone.
Added Sugar
Added sugar such as sugar, dextrose, high fructose, corn sugar, etc, and calories and food sweeteners cause blood sugar spikes. These sugars have few nutritional benefits in them and must be totally avoided by people having this condition.
