Did Cancer Exist Before Man-Made Chemicals Were Around To Create It?
Cancer is one of the most common diseases that affects millions worldwide and has become synonymous with modern living.
The prevalence of man-made chemicals in our environment often raises the question: Did cancer exist before these chemicals came into play? Or is it the mere modernity of life that has triggered the rise in cancer cases around the world?

In this article, we will look into the existence of cancer, whether it has always been there in society or the modern living and lifestyle paved the way for its surge.
Was Cancer Present in Ancient Times?
Let us put it very simple, yes, cancer has a history that pre-dates the modern chemical era [1].
Archaeological evidence suggests that cancer existed in ancient civilizations, as descriptions and remains of cancerous growths have been found in mummies and ancient texts.
For example, the Edwin Smith Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical text, describes cases resembling breast cancer.

What Causes Cancer: Is It Only Our Lifestyle?
Cancer develops from the uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in the body. While modern chemicals can definitely contribute to cancer development, various natural factors can also play a role.
Ultraviolet radiation from the sun, certain infections, genetic mutations, and lifestyle factors like smoking and poor diet can all increase cancer risk.
Can Nature Cause Cancer?
Absolutely it can. Natural sources of radiation, like cosmic rays and radon gas from the earth, have been linked to cancer.
Some naturally occurring substances, such as asbestos and aflatoxins produced by fungi, are carcinogenic. However, these instances are different from the widespread and concentrated exposure that some man-made chemicals can cause.

How Did Early Humans Experience Cancer?
Evidence from ancient remains suggests that prehistoric humans did experience cancer, although it was at lower rates than today. Their shorter lifespans and different lifestyles meant that cancer was not as prevalent as it is now. Nonetheless, it's a reminder that cancer has been a part of human history for a long time.
Modern Lifestyle vs. Ancient Times: Impact on Cancer
The modern lifestyle, surrounded by increased exposure to pollutants, processed foods, and sedentary habits, has indeed contributed to the rising cancer rates. However, it is important to note that our longer lifespans and improved medical diagnostics also play a role in the higher reported cases [2].
The role of genetics: Genetic factors can make individuals more susceptible to cancer. While genetic predisposition existed in ancient times, the prevalence of certain cancers may have been lower due to shorter lifespans and fewer exposures to environmental factors.

On A Final Note...
In the grand scheme of things, cancer is NOT solely a result of man-made chemicals. It is a complex linkage between genetics, natural and environmental factors, and modern lifestyle choices.
While chemicals can contribute to cancer, cancer has been a part of human history since forever.
