Budget 2024: What's In Store For The Health Sector? Here's All You Need To Know
On 1 February 2024, Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while announcing the Interim Union Budget mentioned an app U-Win, which will soon be rolled out across the country by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
A new app for managing immunizations has sparked a wave of optimism within India's health sector. Additionally, the extension of health cover under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will include all Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) Workers and Anganwadi workers and helpers.

This marks a significant step towards enhancing healthcare accessibility and support for these vital community health workers. However, this one is the interim budget for the upcoming fiscal year and the full Budget for 2024-2025 will be announced after the new government is formed following the Lok Sabha elections to be tentatively held around March-April.
With an allocated budget of Rs 89,155 crore for the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, reflecting a 13 percent increase from the previous year, the government demonstrates its commitment to bolstering the health sector.
What's In Store For The Health Sector? Key Highlights
1. The plan to expedite Anganwadi centers under Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0- an Integrated Nutrition Support Programme introduced by the Union Health Ministry in 2022, will be expedited to improve nutrition delivery, early childhood care, and development across the country.
2. The formation of a committee to address the existing issues in setting up more medical colleges indicates a move towards addressing the existing issues and making recommendations.
3. The integration of existing schemes for maternal and child healthcare into one comprehensive program is expected to streamline and enhance the effectiveness of these initiatives.
4. The introduction of the U-Win app, along with extended healthcare coverage for ASHA and Anganwadi workers, marks a step forward in the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality across the nation.
5. The goverment will also encourage the cancer vaccination in girls between 9 - 14 years.
