Dahi Paneer Recipe: Navratri Special
During the festival of Navratri, only vegetarian recipes are prepared at most Hindu homes. Navratri recipes are usually made without onions, garlic and common salt to keep it absolutely pure vegetarian. But the trouble is that you might run out of interesting dishes to cook for the 9 days of Navratri considering the strict guidelines about what is acceptable.
If you are fan of paneer recipes, we have an excellent option for you. Have you ever tried dahi paneer? This dish can be prepared as a Navratri recipe without onions and garlic. Dahi paneer is basically an Indian curry that contains a curd gravy. Dahi paneer will not be very spicy because it has the soothing effects of curd in it.

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Paneer- 200 grams (cubed)
- Fennel seeds- 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
- Kalounji- 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida or hing- 1 pinch
- Green chillies- 2 (slit)
- Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric- 1 pinch
- Curd- 2 cups (beaten)
- Coriander leaves- 2 stalks (chopped)
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 1tbsp
Procedure
- Heat oil in skillet. Season the oil with cumin, fennel, mustard seeds, kalounji and hing.
- When the spices crackle, add the paneer pieces to the skillet and saute on a low flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the slit green chillies and cook for 2 minutes.
- Then add turmeric and red chilli powder to the skillet. Saute for a minute.
- Now beat the curd well and pour it into the pan.
- Stir to mix it up. Add salt; cover and cook for 10 minutes.
- If you want the curry to be a little less dense, you can add half a cup of water.
- Cover and cook for another 3-4 minutes before removing from flame.
- Garnish the dahi paneer curry with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve dahi paneer with pulao or hot rotis.
