Spicy Sindhi Dal Recipe
Do you want to add a little twist to your regular menu? Then we can help you out with it. We Indians simply cannot survive without our favourite dal chawal. It is a must have item on our everyday menu. So, let us make a variation today in our regular, boring dal.
Today we have a spicy Sindhi dal recipe for you to try. Preparing this dal recipe is extremely easy and it will get ready in minutes. But the only twist is that we add a few spices and use a small trick with the tempering. The tempering of the dal is the most unique thing about this recipe and it makes the simple dal burst with mouthwatering flavours.

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
- Chana dal (split Bengal gram)- 1 cup
- Salt- as per taste
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Oil- 2tbsp
- Onion- 1 (chopped)
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Curry leaves- 10
- Green chillies- 3 (slit)
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Amchoor powder (dry mango powder)- 1tsp
- Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
- Water- 3 cups
Procedure
1. Wash the chana dal thoroughly with water.
2. Cook the chana dal with water, salt and turmeric powder in a pressure cooker on low flame. Wait for 3 whistles to go.
3. Once the dal is cooked, remove the pressure cooker from flame and keep it aside.
4. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and add half of the cumin seeds and half of the curry leaves. Fry for a minute.
5. Then add the slit green chillies, red chilli powder and stir.
6. Add this tempering to the boiled dal. Mix well.
7. Then add the amchoor powder, garam masala powder to the dal and mix well.
8. Again heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and add the remaining cumin seeds, curry leaves, half of the chopped onion and stir for 3-4 minutes. Switch off the flame.
9. Transfer the dal to a serving bowl and add the second tempering as well. Mix well.
10. Garnish the dal with the remaining chopped onions.
Spicy and tangy Sindhi dal recipe is ready to be served. It is an excellent dish to serve with steamed or fried rice.
