- Keep 8-10 black pepper seeds in mustard or any other edible oil so that it doesn't get a stale odour after a few weeks.
- Keep 3-4 clove pieces in the sugar container to prevent the ants from entering the container.
- Roast pulses before storing them in the containers. This prevents the insects from eating the pulses and also avoids fungal formation.
- To keep coriander leaves fresh in the refrigerator, store them in a plastic container.
- Add some salt as soon as the oil in frying pan starts heating up. The oil spills will reduce to minimum.
- Drop a Vitamin C tablet or a tsp of cornflour into milk if you want to make curd out of it. The curd will be very thick in consistency.
- Wash an apple in salt water after cutting it. The fruit will look fresh whenever you serve it.
- Soak chicken or mutton liver in milk for 15-20 minutes before cooking. It will not only be soft but very tasty too.
- To store the maximum food value, drop a few drops of tamarind extract in it.
- Drop a pinch of salt in burnt milk. Most of its burning smell will reduce.
- Add a pinch of salt and a few drops of vinegar while boiling eggs to prevent them from cracking.
- Before you cut a cake, dip the knife in cold water for sometime. If you cut the cake with this knife, your cake will not cut unevenly.
- In order to keep salt free from lumps during monsoon, tightly wrap rice in a small piece of cotton or muslin cloth. Drop it in the salt container.
- Pickles often develop fungus. To save it from fungal formation, wrap few mustard seeds in a small cotton or muslin cloth and dip it inside the pickle jar with a clean and dry spoon. Always use clean and dry spoon to take out pickle and store pickle in air-tight jars.
- If you do not like to peel garlic, you can store them! Peel the garlic cloves and coat them with a bit of salt and vinegar. Refrigerate it. It will stay fresh for a long period of time.
- To keep the fish fresh in your fridge, wash off raw fish or meat well and let it dry completely. Then keep it in a plastic bag inside the refrigerator.
