Skin Care Tips for Teens

By Staff

People grow more and more beauty conscious in teenage. They spend considerable amount of time, money and energy to improve their looks. Varieties of cosmetics are experimented on face and skin during the teenage. The teen-age years are an appropriate time to begin a healthy skincare routine. A proper skincare routine during teenage is the first step to live healthy and to prevent future skin issues such as acne scarring, sun damage, fine lines and discoloration.

Your skin is the largest organ of your body. It protects and covers the body, is waterproof, bacteria proof, and

it self-repairs when it is injured. Your skin, hair and nails are a reflection of your state of health. Skin is repairable, but is not replaceable, therefore it should be properly taken care of. While the majority of teens have over-active, oily skin, a number are categorized as having optimal, normal, breakout free skin. Teen-aged skin is divided into these two categories. To care for your skin properly you should know which category your skin belongs to. By devoting a few extra minutes each day to a complete skincare routine, teens can gently ease through these erratic years with confidence. The appearance and condition of your skin is also influenced by genetics, hormones, your lifestyle and your skin care routine.

Your diet plays a vital role in skin care. You must eat a balanced diet in order for your body to function properly. Eating a low-fat diet is recommended for healthy skin. A diet high in fruits and vegetables is best since they are loaded with antioxidants which help to keep the skin supple and nourished. Drinking plenty of fluids is extremely important for healthy skin. Water is most important because it aids in the digestion and absorption of food. Water is also responsible for carrying nutrients to the skin and waste away from the cells, as well as regulating body temperature.

Another important factor that helps your skin to be healthy enough is exercise. Regular exercise will help to increase blood flow to the skin. Increased blood flow to the surface of the skin not only gives you the appearance of a healthy glow, it also helps clean and repair the skin tissues.

The fist step of skin care is to clean it thoroughly. You can use a cleanser for this end. Cleansers are designed to clean your pores, making your skin smoother. If you have acne-prone skin, consider washes that contain salicylic acid to control oil production, benzoyl peroxide to treat pimples or glycolic acid to rid skin of dead skin cells. If you have dry or sensitive skin, consider cleansers that are non-irritating and contain soothing elements and hydrating ingredients. Be very gentle while you clean your skin. Hard scrubbing will only make your skin condition worse. Gently wash your skin with a mild cleanser in the morning, at bedtime, and after heavy exercise. Avoid rough scrubs or pads. After you wash your skin, rinse it thoroughly.

Once your skin is clean, protect it from environmental pollutants and sun damage. The number one way to keep skin healthy is sunscreen. The sun rays cause both immediate and long-term damage including wrinkles, dark spots, loss of firmness and possibly melanoma. The best way to protect skin is to use a daily moisturizer. When using anything on your skin make sure you use products appropriate to your age. Products for adults can actually damage your skin.

If you have normal or oily skin, use a toner containing witch hazel or an astringent lotion. Facial wipes are an easy and quick way to clean your skin in an instant. During dry weather, you may prefer to use a non-alcoholic 'conditioning' toner. Ex-foliating masks are a great skin care product for teens as they clean and purify open pores and rid the skin of dead skin cells.
