DIY Bitter Gourd Face Packs For Healthy And Glowing Skin

Bitter gourd/bitter melon/bitter squash is commonly known as 'karela' in Indian household and it is packed with many vitamins and minerals that are excellent for our skin and health.

Bitter gourd is actually a fruit and not a vegetable, and because of its bitter taste, most of us do not like it. But instead of drinking its juice, we can mix it with different ingredients and make a face pack and apply it on our skin. This way, we can get a healthy and glowing skin.

Bitter gourd contains vitamin C, iron, beta-carotene, potassium, magnesium, calcium, etc., which are actually good for the body and skin. It helps in maintaining blood sugar level, lowers cholesterol, cleans the liver, boosts the immunity system, helps in weight loss, etc.

As for the skin, bitter gourd helps in treating acne because of its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, treats wrinkles, as the serum contained in it helps to reduce fine lines, reduces heat rashes, etc.

Bitter Gourd Face Packs:

Bitter Gourd, Lime Juice, And Tomato Mask:

Tomato is an excellent astringent and helps to unclog large pores, reduces acne and rashes, and gives a glow to dull skin.

Lime Juice has natural bleaching properties, which lighten the skin. The acid content in lime juice helps in removing the dead skin cells and reduces excess oil production from the skin.

How To Use:

  • In a juicer, add one tomato. Remove the seed from the tomato and squeeze out the juice.
  • Add bitter gourd in a juicer and squeeze out the juice.
  • Now, in a bowl, mix equal parts of tomato juice, bitter gourd juice, and lime juice.
  • Mix the ingredients properly and apply the mixture evenly on your face and neck.
  • Leave the mixture overnight.
  • Wash your face and neck with lukewarm water in the morning.
  • Repeat this process every day for glowing skin.

Bitter Gourd, Egg Yolk And Yogurt Mask:

Egg yolk contains various nutrients that hydrate, nourish, and moisturize the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

Yogurt contains lactic acid that helps remove dead skin cells and tightens the pores. It also acts as a good moisturizer.

How To Use:

  • Add one bitter gourd in a juicer and remove the juice.
  • In a bowl, add equal parts of bitter gourd juice, yogurt, and egg yolk.
  • Mix the ingredients properly.
  • Apply the mixture evenly on your face and neck.
  • Leave the mixture on for about 25-30 minutes.
  • Now, remove the mixture from your face and neck by gently massaging it in a circular motion.
  • Wash it off with warm water.
  • Use this recipe every day.
  • This mask is good for anti-ageing treatment.

Bitter Gourd And Orange Scrub:

Orange peel contains various properties that remove pimples, excess oil, dirt, blackhead, bacteria, etc.

How To Use:

  • Dry a few peels of orange under the sun for a day or two.
  • Remove the seeds from the bitter gourd.
  • Now, in a blender, add the dried orange peel and bitter gourd seeds and mix them well.
  • Apply this scrub on your face in a circular motion. Massage for 10 minutes.
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water.

Note: You can boil the bitter gourd and use that water to wash your face.

Bitter Gourd And Cucumber Mask:

Cucumber is loaded with a high water content that keeps the skin hydrated, soothes skin irritation, and reduces swelling if any.

How To Use:

  • In a mixer, blend together pieces of cucumber and bitter gourd.
  • Make it into a fine paste.
  • Apply this mask on your face and neck.
  • Leave the mask on your face and neck for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash it off with normal water.
  • Repeat this process every day for glowing skin.

Bitter Gourd, Turmeric, And Neem Face Pack:

Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce the scars and heals wounds. It also contains antioxidant properties that protect the skin cells from damage. Neem leaves have various benefits that help in treating acne, blemishes, itchiness, etc.

How To Use:

  • In a blender, add one bitter gourd, a few neem leaves, and one tablespoon of turmeric.
  • Grind them together and make it into a thick paste.
  • Apply this mixture evenly on your face and neck.
  • Leave this mixture on your face and neck for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat this process every day for a pimple-free skin.

Bitter Gourd, Basil, Milk And Neem Face Pack:

Basil contains ursolic acid that helps in toning the skin, removes the dead skin cells, and cleans excess oil from the skin.

The lactic acid in milk helps to clear the dark patches on the skin. It also hydrates the skin, treats acne and soothes sun burn,

How To Use:

  • In a mixer, add one bitter gourd, a handful of neem leaves, and basil leaves.
  • Mix the ingredients properly until you get a thick paste.
  • Now, add one spoonful of milk to the paste and apply it on your face.
  • Leave the mixture on your face for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water.
  • Repeat this process every day for a clear and glowing skin.

Bitter Gourd, Aloe Vera And Honey Mask:

Aloe vera contains various properties that help in treating sunburns, skin irritations, and wounds. Furthermore, it also works as an excellent moisturizer that is good for oily skin as well.

It contains beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, which help to keep the skin firm.

Honey contains antioxidant, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties that help to remove the dirt and blackheads from the skin. It also keeps the skin hydrated and also slows down the ageing process.

How To Use:

  • Cut 3-4 slices of bitter gourd without its seed.
  • Peel off the skin of the aloe vera plant.
  • In a blender, put all the ingredients and add 1 teaspoon of honey.
  • Make sure that the mixture is thick.
  • Now, gently apply the mixture on your face and neck.
  • Leave the mixture on your neck and face for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash it off with warm water.
  • Repeat this process every day for attaining a smooth and glowing skin.
