Can One Do Away With The results Of Karma?

By Staff

Karma, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa
The past tendencies or vasanas follow one to successive births while in the exhaustion of which new ones spring up causing the birth and death cycle to revolve relentlessly. The results of one's actions would bear fruit for the good or for the bad depending upon one's deeds. Man is thus caught up in the perpetual grind of actions and results until he finds his way out through liberation. However there are certain cross roads that help one traverse through this unending path, thereby relieving him or reducing his burdens.

Can one escape from the untoward results of past actions?, is the question that pops up in one's mind and the question that has been put forward often to spiritual masters.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the perennial source of wisdom and compassion incarnate vouches the power of God's name which is capable of warding off the undesirable results of past actions. He illustrates the example of a blind man from birth. He was born blind for a certain misdeed in the past and his blindness is to follow him for his next five to six births.

However he took a dip in the holy Ganges which bestows liberation. Of course his blindness was not cured, however it rooted out his future births. When the birth and death cycle is cut asunder, there is no question about blindness.

The depth of a faithful prayer cannot be discerned with one's limited view. However it is only this faith beyond logic and reason that forms the base for liberation. It serves as a fatal blow to Karma ending it then and there.
