Baha'i Teaching On Women Education

Religion and education are the two words that we are daily encountered with. Both are elusive and have a deeper meaning towards life. It has been noted that a person who have received conventional eduction lean less towards religion and vice-a-versa. But have you ever wondered what these two have in common? They both make us a better individual and teach us the way to live life more happily. Baha'i is one such religion that guide us towards the path of religion and education.

For those who don't know much about this religion, here is the guide. Baha'i is a monotheistic religion founded by Baha'u'llah. It lays a great emphasis on the spiritual unity of all human beings and believes that God is one. Baha'i cast out idol worship and teach us different ways to attain peace, justice and unity on a global scale. Baha'i strikes the right cord to motivate its sects about the importance of education and its role in nation building and personal happiness. This religion motivates its followers to ensure right to education for both male and female. In its proclamation on oneness of mankind the Baha'i believes that men and women are equal in the eyes of God and so no distinction should be made between them. They believe if women are given the opportunity of education the distinction and inferiority complex will disappear.

Baha'i teachings says that the cause of sorrow in mankind is distinction and ignorance, that comes from lack of education. The religion staunchly believes that universal education is the universal law. Therefore, it is necessary for every father to bestow his children with the light of education. It also focus on the provision that boys and girls must follow the same curriculum in schools. The house of justice regards the need to educate and guide women as the primary responsibility.

According to Baha'i, if girls are educated they can successfully educate the future generations. Gradually, the spirit of unity and fellowship will embody the mankind. Education should be compulsory and so do professional training, art or trade so that people could earn their own livelihood. Baha'i also motivates their followers to work and spread education to all, as a service to mankind is service to God.
