Should Kids Apply Makeup?

By Asha Das

Like the same way how we want to go back to our childhood, kids always want to become grown-ups. This is the reason why your kid is trying to imitate you in all manners. No wonder if she loves trying out your lipstick, nail polish or other makeup products.

Kids love doing makeup, and in most of the cases we also enjoy them having fun. But be cautious if your kid has more curiosity and interest in wearing makeup. There are many studies that warn us about the vicious toxins in cosmetics and their potential health effects on a kid's skin. The reality is that side-effects of cosmetics, particularly of a low quality, may affect not only your kid's skin, but also it may eventually lead to cancer, infertility and hormonal imbalance.

Should Kids Apply Makeup?

Skin of a kid is different from ours and these makeup products can have a more nasty effect on their skin. When kids are cute and beautiful even without makeup, why should you leave them for serious health concerns. Here are some harmful effects of cosmetics on kids.

Allergies: Some ingredients that are found in products such as fragrances and preservatives activate allergic reactions. This includes reddening, contact dermatitis, skin rashes and itching. Preservatives in makeup may also irritate your eyes and skin. Do not allow your kid to wear any makeup, at least that causes skin irritation once.

Dry skin: Kids are more prone to have a dry skin and its associated problems. The use of makeup will make the skin all the more dry. Foundation or powder used by kids may dry out their skin and make it look flaky and dull. Dryness also makes skin itchy.

Skin rash: Generally skin rash is the most common and first presented side-effect of using makeup in kids. The rash in kids may vary from red bumps to small, elevated hives. Sometimes rashes will be associated with itching as well. The harmful chemicals present in makeup are responsible for this type of skin reactions.

Swelling: Swelling is commonly associated with eye makeup in kids. The use of eyeliner, eye shadow or mascara of low quality will irritate their sensitive skin. The harsh chemicals in the makeup will result in swelling of the eyelids and may eventually lead to inflammation.

Cancer: Makeup cosmetics of low quality may contain many harsh chemicals that may cause cancer after using it for long time. Most of the chemicals are absorbed by the skin and they will cause serious health effects on the kids.

Kids are gorgeous even without makeup. Prefer organic beauty products for your kid if you cannot prevent them from using it. Always prefer high quality products, designed especially for kids.
