Glutamates are materials which are present in food additives like MSG and sugar substitutes. These are also used for the processing of food or the browning of meats. Glutamates have led to damage of the brain and nervous system and given rise to diseases like Parkinson's disease, Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism.
The damage from glutamates might be serious and long lasting, but have been mostly ignored for a long time. Several research shows that a type of vitamin B12 called Methylcobalamin can be able to recover the damage done to the brain due to these glutamates.
Limit the consumption of large sea fishes that accumulate a lot of mercury over a long period of time. This mercury causes damage to the brain cells and leads to cognitive impairment. It affects the part of the brain that is responsible for proper functioning of the vision, balance and co-ordination. Tile fish, king mackerel, swordfish and shark contain high levels of mercury and should be avoided at all cost.
Food items that are rich in trans fat cause brain damage. Trans fats interrupt nerve transmission and lead to inflammation and brain shrinkage. Bakery items, microwave popcorns and foods that are deep fried using trans fats like margarine end up damaging the brain.

Avoid sugary drinks at all cost. These do not satiate our hunger and we end up eating more in the long run as the brain's weight regulation system does not seem to function properly when it comes to sugary drinks.
Certain researchers have stated that gluten found in bread, pasta, bagels etc. also cause harm to the brain by impairing its thinking power. Processed foods are also bad for the heart and brain as these are full of trans fat, preservatives, artificial ingredients and sugar. These cause weight gain and inflammation too.
