Yogini Ekadashi 2026 falls today, Friday, July 10, 2026, during the Krishna Paksha of the lunar month of Ashadha (Ashadha Krishna Ekadashi). Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is one of the 24 Ekadashi vrats observed throughout the year. Falling before Devshayani Ekadashi, this sacred day is believed to help devotees seek forgiveness for past wrongdoings, cleanse negative karma, and attain spiritual merit.

Significance Of Yogini Ekadashi 2026
According to the Padma Purana, observing Yogini Ekadashi with devotion is believed to please Lord Vishnu, help devotees seek forgiveness for sins and negative karma, promote physical, mental and spiritual well-being. According to traditional Hindu scriptures, observing Yogini Ekadashi with devotion is believed to bring immense spiritual merit, comparable to the virtue gained from feeding thousands of learned Brahmins.
Common Rituals Of Yogini Ekadashi 2026
Devotees observe Yogini Ekadashi by performing the following rituals:
- Wake up before sunrise and take a holy bath.
- Offer prayers to Lord Vishnu with Tulsi leaves, flowers, incense and a lamp.
- Observe a fast (Nirjala or according to one's ability).
- Chant Vishnu mantras such as "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" or recite the Vishnu Sahasranama.
- Read or listen to the Yogini Ekadashi Vrat Katha.
- Donate food, clothes or money to those in need after completing the fast.
Yogini Ekadashi 2026 Vrat Katha
According to the Padma Purana, the Yogini Ekadashi Vrat Katha is narrated by Lord Krishna to Yudhishthira. In the celestial city of Alakapuri, Kubera's gardener, Hemamali, was responsible for collecting flowers every day for Lord Shiva's worship. However, he became so engrossed in spending time with his wife, Vishalakshi, that he neglected his duty. Enraged by his carelessness, Kubera cursed Hemamali with leprosy and banished him from the kingdom.
After years of suffering on Earth, Hemamali met Sage Markandeya, who advised him to observe the Yogini Ekadashi fast with complete devotion to Lord Vishnu. He sincerely observed the vrat, repented for his mistake, and was eventually freed from the curse. Hemamali regained his health, reunited with his wife, and returned to Alakapuri, highlighting the importance of devotion, repentance and fulfilling one's duties.
