Vat Savitri Vrat 2025 Date: Know Shubh Muhurat And Puja Samagri And Vidhi
Vat Savitri Vrat is a revered Hindu festival observed by married women, primarily in North India, to pray for the longevity and well-being of their husbands. Rooted in the legendary tale of Savitri and Satyavan, this vrat symbolizes unwavering devotion and marital fidelity.
In 2025, the observance holds special significance as it aligns with auspicious timings and rituals that enhance its spiritual impact.

Date and Shubh Muhurat
In 2025, Vat Savitri Vrat will be observed on Monday, May 26, coinciding with the Jyeshtha Amavasya tithi. According to the Hindu Panchang, the Amavasya tithi begins at 12:11 PM on May 26 and concludes at 8:31 AM on May 27. However, as per traditional practices, the vrat is observed on the day when the Amavasya tithi prevails during sunrise, which is May 26 in this case.
Significance of Vat Savitri Vrat
The vrat commemorates the devotion of Savitri, who, through her unwavering faith and determination, persuaded Lord Yama to restore her husband Satyavan's life. This tale underscores the power of devotion and the sanctity of marital bonds. Observing this vrat is believed to bestow longevity upon husbands and strengthen the marital relationship.
Puja Samagri (Essential Items for Worship)
To perform the Vat Savitri Puja, gather the following items:
- Vata (Banyan) tree or its branch
- Sacred thread (kalava) or raw cotton thread
- Red cloth
- Flowers (preferably red or yellow)
- Fruits (such as mangoes or bananas)
- Incense sticks and lamp (diya)
- Sweets (like puri and halwa)
- Soaked chana (gram)
- Betel leaves and nuts
- Turmeric and vermilion (kumkum)
- A small mat or cloth for sitting
- A picture or idol of Savitri and Satyavan (optional)
Puja Vidhi (Step-by-Step Rituals)
Preparation: On the day of the vrat, wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean traditional attire. If possible, dress in red or yellow, symbolizing auspiciousness.
Setting Up the Puja Area: Choose a clean and serene spot near a Vata tree. If a tree isn't accessible, place a branch in a pot or use a symbolic representation. Spread a red cloth and arrange the puja items.
Invocation: Light the lamp and incense sticks. Offer prayers to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.
Worship of the Vata Tree: Apply turmeric and vermilion to the base of the tree or its representation. Offer flowers, fruits, and sweets. Tie the sacred thread around the tree while circumambulating it seven times, chanting prayers for your husband's well-being.
Listening to the Vat Savitri Katha: Sit calmly and listen to or read the story of Savitri and Satyavan, reflecting on its teachings of devotion and determination.
Conclusion: Offer the soaked chana and sweets to the tree. Seek blessings from elders and distribute prasad among family members.
While Vat Savitri Vrat is predominantly observed in North India, similar practices exist in other regions. In Maharashtra and parts of South India, a related festival called Vat Purnima is celebrated, which falls on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Jyeshtha month. Despite the difference in dates, the essence of praying for a husband's longevity remains consistent.
