Vastu Tips For Diwali: How To Decorate Your Home And Invite Positivity And Happiness
Vastu Shastra is an ancient science of traditional Indian architecture and design system that aims to create harmony and balance in living spaces so that the energy of the house remains positive and benefits the family members. This year, Diwali will begin on Thursday, 9 November 2023 to Tuesday, 14 November 2023.
With Diwali approaching fast, it is essential that you prepare your home before the festival of light arrives according to Vastu Shastra. This will not only fill your home with positivity but also ensure the well-being of everyone present in the house. Read on.

1. Clean and Declutter Home
A clean and tidy environment is essential for positive energy flow, says Vastu Shastra. Ensure the doorway is clean and that there is no creaking voice while opening the door.
2. Rangoli
Creating a beautiful rangoli and Lakshmi's feet at the entrance of the house. This is done to invite the Goddess of Wealth home, who is associated with prosperity. All you need to ensure that the auspicious symbols like Swastik, and Om along with rangoli are drawn in the north/east corner.
3. Lighting And Placing Diyas
Earthen diyas (oil lamps) should be placed in the north and east directions of your home to symbolize the flow of positive energy. Avoid lighting diyas towards the south as it is considered inauspicious and fill it with pure ghee. Further, place diya in a set of four as it represents Goddess Laxmi, Lord Ganesh, Lord Kuber, and Lord Indra
4. Using Bright and Warm Colours
You can decorate your home with vibrant and warm colors such as red, orange, and yellow. These colors are associated with positivity and energy according to Vastu.
5. Positioning of Lights
Red, orange, yellow, white, and blue colors are considered good as per Vastu. For the main entrance in the east, you can use yellow lights, for the southeast entrance, you can use red lights, for the north/northeast entrance, you can use yellow lights and for the south/southwest entrance, you can opt for blue and red lights.
6. Placement of Idols, Flowers
If you have religious idols or images in your home, place them in the northeast direction, facing east or north. This is considered auspicious. The same applies to the flowers in the home as it is said to bring prosperity.
7. Avoid Broken or Damaged Items
If there are broken or damaged items in your home, then they should be removed from your home as they can bring negative energy, says Vastu.
8. Kitchen Placement
You need to ensure that your kitchen is clean and well-organized. If you have non-functional appliances in your kitchen, remove them as they can become obstacles in the positive flow of energy in the house.
