The children's touch is a pleasing thrill to the parent,
And their words are lilting music to their ears.
This Kural speaks generally of the value of the touch and speech of the children to the parents. Their touch is thrilling while their speech is heavenly music.
There is a slight difference between the interpretations of Parimelalagar and Manakudavar on the question of the children's touch, whether it is that of the parent touching the children, or the children touching the parent.
There is really no need to differentiate. Both give pleasure to the parent. Nor is there any need to differentiate between ordinary childish speech and childish prattle, which receives special attention from Valluvar in the next Kural.
