Let The Body Speak !

Bhagavan Ramana would not recede from his resolve of accepting special attention from any one.He gently brushed aside or chided such favours showered on Him by devotees. As customary of Him, a teaching would also accompany his refusal.
One day Dr.Srinivasa Rao requested Bhagavan to give him the privilege of massaging His legs. Bhagavan as usual refused saying that He would not permit such things to happen and asked in return as to how he knew that He had the pain.
The Dr.Rao in turn begged Bhagavan to relax His resolve and entreated Him to allow him to massage His legs. Prop came an instruction camouflaged in the garb of an answer, " If you think Ramana is the body stretched on the couch, you may ask the body and if the body is feeling the pain, let it ask by itself"
Dr.Rao argued saying that there would definitely be some kind of a relief when His legs are massaged. He went on to say that though Bhagavan would refuse permission it is not alright for the devotees to stay unconcerned.
Bhagavan replied that such practices would only strengthen one's attention on the body, which one ought to break in order to realise the real essence, the real self which is the Atman. Dr.Rao however persisted in entreating Bhagavan. Bhagavan in order to put an end to Dr. Rao's pleading said " Let me also earn some merit, 'Punyam' by massaging my legs !
