Poila Baisakh 2023: The Baisakh Rituals And Mantras
Poila Baisakh is the harvest season, where people pray to Gods for blessings on their home and hearth. Prayers are recited with the hope that it would bring them peace, good health and longevity. After the prayers, they begin their tasks for the day, month and the year. This is backed by a belief that the first day should be well spent so that the rest of the year will turn out to be successful.

Poila Baisakh 2023 Date & Timing
On Bengal 15 April, which is the Bengali New year, the Bengalis exchange the customary Shubho Nobo Borso to each other. All auspicious beginnings are started on this day as it augurs well for all the ventures. Fairs are also held in various places in Bengal.
Rituals To Be Followed
The first thing in the morning, after waking up, for a Bengali, would be to watch the rising sun to imbibe the auspicious vibrations and augment the fortunes.
Procession namely Prabhat Pheris is conducted by Women wearing White Garad Sarees,with red borders. They wear flowers on their hairs, oversized gold earrings and gold jewellery. Men wear traditional white kurtas and dhotis and tikka that is purchased from a Mosque.
Men and women dance to songs after which Women serve a lavishly made meal which includes rice, fish, green chillies, onions, and various sweets. Rangolis are drawn at the entrance of the homes. This apart, people strengthen their bonds with friends by visiting them and enjoying tasty meals.
Dance performances of all types right from folk danes to skits and theatrical performances are held. Panjika is purchased ahead of time to refer to in times of need. Panjika is a long ledger wherein you can find timings for all occasions, horoscopes, and generally auspicious timings for all good beginnings. Panjikas are a very important part of the Poila Baisakh celebrations.
Poila Baisakh Mantras
- On the day of Poila Baisakh, firstly worship Ganesha and recite this mantra.
- "Om Shreeng Hreeng Kleeng Glaung Gang Ganapataye Var Varad SarvaJanmay Vashmanay Tha Tha."
- Then recite the Rina harta mantra which grants you a debt free life the entire year.
- "Om Ganesh Rinnam Chhindhi Varenyam Hoong Namaah Phutt"
- Now chant the Shaktivinayaka mantra.
- "Om Hreeng Greeng Hreeng" bestows peace, fortunes, financial stability, and prosperity during the year.
- Now go ahead and wish Shubho Nobho Borso to your Bengali friends and acquaintances, wherever you are.
