As the holy city of Prayagraj gears up to welcome millions of devotees for the Maha Kumbh fair, the Uttar Pradesh government is ushering in a new era of event management. With the introduction of an electronic pass system, authorities aim to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and enhanced security, transforming the traditional gathering into a well-orchestrated, tech-enabled event.

Streamlined Vehicle Management With Colour-Coded E-Passes

The sheer scale of the Maha Kumbh fair, often described as the world's largest religious gathering, presents unique logistical challenges. To address these, the government has introduced a six-colour e-pass system, simplifying vehicle identification and management. Each pass is designed for a specific group, ensuring that different categories of attendees can be easily distinguished:

• White: Reserved for VIPs, including foreign ambassadors, nationals, and non-resident Indians (NRIs).
• Saffron: Assigned to Akharas, the sectarian organisations integral to the fair's spiritual activities.
• Yellow: For service providers such as vendors and food court operators, ensuring they can access the fairgrounds efficiently.
• Sky Blue: Dedicated to media personnel, facilitating their movement as they cover the event.
• Blue: For police, enabling swift identification and movement of law enforcement vehicles.
• Red: Used for emergency and essential services, allowing priority access in critical situations.

This innovative system aims to prevent congestion, ensuring a seamless flow of vehicles throughout the fair's duration from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

Nodal Officers: Ensuring A Smooth Distribution Process

To implement the e-pass system effectively, the government has appointed nodal officers across various departments. These officers are responsible for overseeing the distribution of passes, ensuring that they adhere to a pre-determined quota for each category. By verifying applications and managing the allocation process, nodal officers play a crucial role in maintaining order and preventing overcrowding.

An official statement highlighted the importance of this organised approach: "For smooth functioning of the system, nodal officers of various departments and the fair police will verify the applications for vehicle passes of all institutions based on the prescribed quota."

Extensive Parking And Enhanced Security Measures

Recognising the need for adequate parking facilities to accommodate the massive gathering, the authorities have made extensive arrangements. This is part of a broader strategy to enhance convenience, manageability, and security for attendees. The e-pass system, spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh Development Systems Corporation (UPDESCO), reflects a commitment to leveraging technology for efficient crowd management, ensuring a safe environment for all.

Sacred Rituals : Key Dates For The Shahi Snan

The spiritual heart of the Maha Kumbh lies in the Shahi Snan or royal baths, which attract millions seeking spiritual purification. The key dates for these rituals are:

January 14: Makar Sankranti
January 29: Mauni Amavasya
February 3: Basant Panchami

These sacred baths hold profound significance, believed to cleanse the soul and grant spiritual liberation.
